The Abundant Design

Many property owners who are learning about Permaculture ask questions like, “How much would you charge to look at our property, and consult us with some ideas?"  Or, “What is the average price for you to create a Permaculture design for our property?”

 

The answer to questions like these really depends on several factors.  That’s why I do a property assessment and a customer assessment with each customer.  The assessments help me to determine your overall goals.  Some of those goals could include: food production, income, sustainability, etc…

 

The reason we go through the assessment process is because, the customer’s goals for their property guides a good part of the design.

 

The assessment also helps me to gauge the skills, experience and knowledge of the customer.  If they have little to no experience working with plants, soils, etc..., then they may really need a full design and implementation.  Or, they may desire to take an Abundant Design workshop so they can learn how to design and implement a permaculture design on their own, or with a little bit of coaching.

 

If the customer has experience working with plants, soils, etc… they may just need a walkthrough on their property, a simple design, and a little bit of coaching in order to implement an abundant design.

 

Here are the services we have found helpful to others and the price ranges of each.

 

Phone Consultations:

Before I actually consult by phone, I email our assessment form to the customer, plus a request for their address and a simple drawing of their property indicating where the existing property lines and structures are located, and several digital pictures of the areas they would like to develop.  Once I receive that information, I do internet research on the property and develop a plan for the consultation.  Within about one week, in a follow-up phone call, I will share my findings and how they relate to the customer’s vision.

 

Cost: 

Customer goal assessment, research, and 90 minute phone consultation - up to 1 acre = $150

Properties over 1 acre = $10/acre

Example: 25 acres = $150 + (24 x $10) = $390

 

WalkThru:

I will walk the customer’s property with the owner to give verbal recommendations and ideas of what sort of Permaculture strategies and methods would apply.  I also provide rough drawings where or when it’s appropriate.  I will also provide helpful educational resources such as reading materials, website links, and YouTube videos.

 

Cost:

$85/hour the first 2 hours, then $40/hour for every additional hour.

Please Note:  If you pay for a Phone Consultation or a WalkThru, and you then decide to purchase a Permaculture Design, the full amount of that prior service will be deducted from the price of the design.

 

Permaculture Designs:

I offer three types of Permaculture Design Services, Framework Designs, Full Designs, & Full Designs with Project Management Services.

 

With each of these designs, I will walk the property with the owner, acquire any information that the owner has related to the property, and do an online study (Google Earth Map, Register of Deeds, etc…).  I will then create a Permaculture Design including a written property assessment and summary of the design plan.  The property size and complexity of the design that the customer desires will determine the cost of the design.  See below for details and examples of each design service.

 

Framework Designs:                                                - Est: &750 - $3,000

• Property Assessment

• Customer Assessment

• Soil Health Assessment

• Design Recommendations with Drawings (will include earthworks such as swales, ponds, access roads, footpaths, etc…)

• General Plant Lists for the Implementation

 

Full Designs:                                                              - Est: $3,000 - $6,000

• Specific Plant Lists with Online & Local Suppliers Noted

 

Full Design & Project Management:                           - Est: $6,000 - $36,000/yr

• Property Assessment

• Customer Assessment

• Soil Health Assessment

• Analysis

• Design Recommendations with Drawings (will include earthworks such as swales, ponds, access roads, footpaths, etc…)

• Specific Plant Lists with Online & Local Suppliers Noted

• Implementation Priorities (Time Table)

• Estimated Cost Analysis for Full Implementation

• Project Management – Oversee the installation of the full design, work with sub-contractors / installers, trouble shoot, organize and schedule maintenance in the early months/years of the system, assess results, fine tune design strategies, stay with the project until everything is functioning as projected.
